Πρώτη πτήση για το επιβατικό κοινό του Α380.

The world's largest passenger plane, the Airbus A380, lifted off safely from Singapore on its first commercial flight to Sydney.

With 455 passengers, some of whom paid tens of thousands of dollars for a seat in aviation history, the superjumbo soared into the sky on a 7 1/2-hour flight to Sydney that launches a new era in air travel.

The new aircraft suffered almost two years of delays because of a number of construction problems but took off on time on Wednesday.

The Boeing 747 jumbo jet generally carries about 500 passengers. But the A380 is capable of carrying 853 passengers in an all-economy class configuration.

Singapore Airlines is to take delivery of another five A380s in 2008.
